Take Your Time


How long do you think it takes to really get to know someone to the point where you could marry them? Is 1 month long enough? Is 6 months long enough? Is 1 year long enough? What do you think of people who believe in love at first site? Is it infatuation or genuine love? I don´t intend to answer these questions, but how you answer them will impact how you approach dating and relationships.

However, no matter what your answer to the questions above there are some things that you should be aware of. First, rushing into a relationship makes you much more vulnerable for a bad relationship. If you take your time getting to know someone you will learn about their good and bad points. If you watch their behaviors over time you will get a feel for how they handle pressure and stress, how they are with children, how they are with their family, how they treat you when you are with their friends. Second, quick engagements are typically so couples can have sex and SEX alone doesn´t make a relationship. Third, most people who are abusive want a quick engagement and marriage because they cannot hide their true behaviors and feelings too long (yes this is a generalization, but it is often true). Fourth, time will let YOU know if you are dating the person you feel most comfortable with. Time will let you know if you and your partner can trust each other with each others hearts.

I should mention that in four to six months most people know if marriage is a possibility or not in their relationships.... ...I did :-)
